MISCELLANEOUS EXTRACTS.

A correspondent of the "Morning Post " says that an unfailing cure for bronehittis is the oommoii saltpetre, to be had at the oil-shop, and one halfpennyworth of which is sufficient to cure any individual. The way to take it is to suck it- -a smnll lump at a time— and swallow it as dissolved.

In Zeals ohuiohyard, near Mere, a young soldier has just been buried, who, after being at Alma and Sebastopol in the Crimean war, at Luoknovr and the Gate of Delhi in the Indian mutiny, where he witnessed unheard-of horrors was mortally wounded by a Brahmin' whom he afterwards shot, and brought home his beads, pistol, knives, &o. These may now be seen in his father's cottage, near Stourton. His parents propose to place a tombstone to his memory.—'Winchester Journal.

Mutiny at Malta. — We hear that a serious disturbance, if not mutiny, has taken place on board her Majesty's ship James Watt in Malta harbour. The affair has been kept as quiet as possible; but, from what we can gather, it appears that on the night of the 16th inst., when the captain, commander, first lieutenant and officers of marines, were out the ship, intimation was received that the ship's oompauy wore in a state of mutiny, smashing their mess traps, throwing shot about, and insulting their officers. The gunuer was hit across the loins with a marling spike, and he is said to be still suffering from the injury. It it reported that two officei s jumped overboard, and were picked up by a Maltese boat. Il was not until. the Marines were ordered to clear the lower deck that order was restored. A court of iuquiry has been sitting on the affair, but we have not heard the result. It is said that the grievanoe was au ungracious refusal to allow to the good jjcouduet men to be permitted to send their linen on shore to the wash.
