POLITICAL.

The past month has been a perfect blank in tho political world. We do not remember any period during; the last three years, so devoid of political interest. Provincial politics are laid by until after the sitting of the Ge.neral Assembly, duriug which, it is hoped, the key to set us at liberty from our present deadlock svill be found. On the eve of the meeting of our Colonial parliament, it might have been supposed that a little capital would have been made, by the opposition endeavouring to induce our members to pledge themselves to some definite line of policy; but though its organ repeatedly advocated calling a public meeting for some such purpose, it did so without effect. The lladical party being in ignorince like every one else, of the Ministry, Wei'e fearful to commit themselves to tho advocacy of any line, lest it should prove counter to that of the Stafford Government. It deserves to be noted that although all parties here admit the neglet with which this province is constantly treated by the General Government, yet the Radical party, who profess such great things for our benefit, not only never oppose the present ministry, but invariably endeavour to thwart every means which are used to remove it. The Session was to have opened at Auckland on the 2;3th instant, but in consequence of the unavoidable detention of the While Swan the Wellington Members, including the Speaker, did not leave here until the 24th. The Steamer would probably ieach Auckland on the 28th. It is expected that the Governor would de'iver his speech in the Legislative Council on the 25th, and that the Assembly would adjourn from day to day until the While Swan's arrival. The speech, it is thought, may possibly contain some indications of the Governor's war policy, past and future, but his speech delivered to the Native conference shows us that his Ministry are adepts at inditing a long speech containing nothing. Among other items a war loan is expected.
