Cycling Handicaps
Handicaps for the 40-mile road cycle race to be held by the Waihi Cycling and Athletic Club to-mor-row have been declared as follows: D. Kingsford, scr.; M. Skinner, 3 min; J. Bacon, 4$ min; L. Skinner, 6£ min; D. Johnston, 8 min; B. Davies, 9£ min; E. Dye and W. Bright, 10J min; W. Slaney, T. Crisp and M. Brewer, 13 min; B. McCarthy and L. Innes, 16 min;; K. Brewer, 18 min. Fewer Government Employees Resignations from three Government Departments, Works, Railways and Forestry, were mainly responsible for a decrease of 1044 in the number of people employed by the State between October last and April of this year, states the half-yearly survey of employment issued by the National Employment Service. During that period the Ministry of Works lost 870 employees, Railways 604 and Forestry 161, but these losses were offset to a certain degree by an increase in the number joining the Post and Telegraph and the State Hydro-electric Departments,
