NATIONAL SAVINGS

PROGRESS OF MOVEMENT IN THAMES POSTAL AREA

During the week' ended August 6. 347 of the 358 Dominion National Savings quota towns reached their weekly targets. Since April 1, 203 towns, compared with 156 during the-same period last year, have raised their full annual National Savings quotas. In the Thames postal district seven towns are so far successful, namely, Te Teko, Turua, Mt. Maunganui, Te Aroha, Waitakaruru, NgaUa and Tauranga, in that order. Twelve of the 20 postal districts in New Zealand have already exceeded their annual targets as against 7 last year. In the Thames postal district, however, which extends from Coromandel in the north to Wliakatane in the south and embraces the Hauraki Plains and Te Aroha area, £BOOO is still required to top the full annual quota of £138,|>B4. It is confidently expected that this amount will be in hand well before the end of August, thus beating last year’s record performance, when the district quota was reached in October.
