Conscience Money The Secretary to the Treasury, Mr B. C. Ashwin, acknowledges in the latest Gazette receipt of several shifts of conscience money. There was £1 to the Customs Department, £lB 6s 6d and £2 to the Land and Income Tax Department, £6 and two sums of £l to the Social Security Department, £7 15s to the Reserve Bank, £3, £5 15s (on account of New Zealand Railways), and £4 to the Treasury Department. During the month of July building permits to the value of £2043 10s were issued and fees to the value of £l3 17s 6d were received as compared with £IB9O 10s and fees of £l2 5s for the previous month, staled the building inspector, Mr W. R. Oliver, in his monthly report to the Borough Council on Monday evening. Mr Oliver, who is also the health inspector, further reported that a considerable amount of household refuse was being tipped in various streets in the borough. It was often difficult to find the offenders and he considered a notice snould be published warning that persons found .tipping refuse in the streets or public places would be prosecuted.
