SALE OF EGGS BY WEIGHT
WELLINGTON GROCERS TAKE EXCEPTION FINAL DECISION WITHHELD Strong exception to the sale of eggs by weight was expressed at a meeting of the Wellington Master Grocers’ Association. Members were of the opinion that it would not be in the best interests of the public and would tend to detract from rather than add to the service which was at present given. However, as the Grocers’ Federation had agreed to the scheme being given a trial in an isolated locality, a final decision is to be withheld until the results of the trial have been reported (Btates the Wellington “Evening Post”).
“If, as is claimed by the proponents of the scheme, it results in the housewife receiving fresher eggs, and if the housewives themselves support the innovation,” says the association, “then grocers will no douut play their part in meeting the public’s wish. “Should the trial which is about to commence in Tauranga prove that sale by weight enables grocers to give a better service to the public, there will be good grounds for the wider application of the scheme. Hew ever, Wellington grocers will not be party to foisting on to the public any innovation which may he unwanted and which may not prove beneficial.”
