"PIPELINE” FOR SPIES

UNEASINESS IN ULSTER

LEAKAGE OF INFORMATION

The Ulster Criminal Investigation Department has begun an all-out drive to find the secret “pipeline” across the Eire border, through which Irish Republican Army spies pass military plans and information to German agents in Eire. Attempts already made through the I.R.A. network to secure details of the Anglo-American military strength in Ulster are causing uneasiness. The I.R.A. in Ulster is believed to be now stronger than ever. Police patrols who raided Belfast houses found arms dumps and documents, and also evidence that the I.R.A. is in close touch with German spies. The raids have upset the I.R.A. organisation, but the Ulster C.I.D. is still puzzled by the speed with which reports of happenings in Belfast reach the I.R.A’s. inner councils in Dublin.
