Beach Road Bread Delivery

Mrs Haszard drew the attention of members to the unsatisfactory method of bread delivery by ’bus to customers along the road. It seems the bread is not wrapped and is sometimes on the seat and often on the floor of the ’bus. Mrs Haszard urged the institute to do something about this very unhygenic method of bread delivery. It was decided to get in touch with the baker who sent the unwrapped bread and ask him to provide a box for it.

Referring to the collection of old rubber, books and magazines, Mrs Rae mentioned that a space had been provided for these articles at Mr S. Bonnici’s garage. Competitions for Month Competitions for October were: (1) Roll call (some useful household article) and (2) impromptu speeches. A demonstration on the taking of temperatures was given by Mrs Toms, members showing keen interest. Competition winners were: Best bloom, Mrs Willis. Best patch, Mrs Haszard, 1; Mrs Rae, 2. Child’s dress (for Sugden Shield competition), Mrs Haszard, 1; Mrs Rae, 2. A paper d’oyley competition was won toy Mrs Dusehka. Afternoon tea having been served, a very interesting meeting was brought to a close by the singing of the National Anthem.
