BEACH WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

VERY INTERESTING MONTHLY MEETING DRAMA CIRCLE FORMED

The usual monthly meeting of the Waihi Beach Women's Institute was held recently in the cabaret, Mis Rae presiding over a good attendance of members. Three new members were welcomed. The motto for the month was: "You can't clean up this world with soft soap—it takes grit. ' The usual routine business having been attended to, members held a discussion as to whether they should

enter for the competitions at the group meeting to be held in Paeroa in August, and decided against the proposal. Their effort towards the

group meeting entertainment programme will he a competition arranged by Miss Fisk, the prize to be purchased with money taken from the genera] fund. A donation of one guinea was made out of the special fund account towards the London, hostel fund.

A most interesting talk was given by Mrs T. R. C. Ilasxard, who recently attended the conference of the Auckland District Federation of Women's Institutes and who was in charge of the competition tables. Some helpful advice was given to next year's intending competitors. A good deal of merriment was caused by Mrs Haszard's description of items from the drama festival. Mrs Moon's demonstration of the making of a crochet shopping kit, a most useful and convenient article, was much appreciated. Competition winners were: Cot cover, Mrs George; best bloom, Mrs Rae; knitting, Mrs Rae first, Miss Fisk second. A drama circle was formed, Miss Bowers to take charge. After afternoon tea had been served the singing of the National Anthem brought a very enjoyable afternoon to a close.
