BUTTER PRODUCTION

LIKELY TO EXCEED EXPORT CONTRAC'

THE LOWER GRADES

STATEMENT BY MINISTER By Telegraph—Pres? Association. AUCKLAND. This Day. "The quantity of butter to be purchased by the United Kingdom has not yet been settled," said the Minister of Marketing, the Hon. J. G. Burclay, in opening the forty-seventh conference of the National Dairy Association in the Town Hall to-day. "If appear likely, however, that there will be a surplus of butter produced for export over the contract quantity," said Mr Barclay, "it would appear also that the United Kingdom does not desire any lower

grades of butter for 1941-42. The

New Zealand Government, however, is prepared, under the guranteedprice scheme, to purchase all butter manufactured for export, including whey butter, and will assume the responsibility of any loss. The price to be paid for second-grade creamery butter will require further consideration."

The Minister said New Zealand was the main sur/pller lo whom the Uniteel Kingdom could look for cheese, and appealed to farmers to do their utmost to meet this call.
