ACADEMY THEATRE
CUR RENT PROGRAMMES “The I-lurricaiie,” showing at tlio Academy to-night, contains a truly great cast headed by Dorothy Lamour and lon Hall, supported by Mary Astor, C. Aubrey Smith, Thomas Mitchell, Raymond Massey, John Carra—dine and Jerome Cowan. In this dramatic saga of the South Seas, written by Charles Nordhoff and James Hall, authors o£ “Mutiny of lhe Bounty,” there is a story rich in every element of cinematic entertainment. And under the virile direction of John Ford the story has been translated into a picture which surpasses even the producer’s fondest dreams. “The Hurricane,” with its tender romance, its powerful drama, its picturesque setting and its amazing spectacle climax, is a story readycut to the screen’s most heroic measure. A man’s strength and a woman’s beauty against Nature’s fury and the law’s revenge—a man
protecting the woman lie worships -—vivid romantic, adventure! Victor McLaglen, winner of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science’s award in 1935 for his performance in “The Informer,” is starred in Universal’s “Ex Champ,” to lie screened at the Academy Theatre to-morrow and on Friday. Me- ' Baglen will be seen in the role of an ex-champion boxer who has reared a worthless son. The boy is a snob 1 who disdains the home of his father and who is ashamed to be known as
the son of a broken-down lighter. Put the ex-champ, proves that lie is stiil of championship material, as far as his heart goes, when lie prefers to sacrifice everything he values to save his worthless son from the effects of his own indiscretion.
