TRADE PACT
BETWEEN GERMANY AND DOMINION MR NASH ACTIVE TENTATIVE AGREEMENT MADE Australian and N.Z. Cable. BERLIN, April 22. Negotiations were begun between Germany and New Zealand, represented by Mr Walter Nash, for a trade and transfer Agreement on the lines of those concluded by Germany with other British Dominions. Mr Nash told the Australian Associated Press representative that lie had spent Monday and Tuesday in discussions with the Foreign Office on a trade agreement, and also had lunch with Dr. Schacht, Minister of Economics and president of the Reichsbank. In an interview Mr Nash said that a tentative agreement had been reached and would probably be finalised before he left London in June. The main object was to increase two-way trade. If the plan succeeds trade should at least be doubled. The agreement in principle closely resembles that between Germany and Canada, but has stronger safeguards for New Zealand. Provision is made to prevent any appreciable trade balance arising in favour of either side. Leading men asked Mr Nash's views on the international situation, and he told them that if Germany showed she was disposed to use her regained freedom to collaborate in the maintenance of peace the world would be on her side, but if not, the outlook would be dark indeed. The Australian Associated Press representative in Berlin says that Mr Nash had a long interview with a representative of the largest German buyer of New Zealand wool, and also interviewed the director of German Dyestuffs Corporation. Mr Nash and his party, before departure for Moscow, were entertained by.representatives of German Ministers at dinner in the Hotel Kaiserhof.
