DE VALERA REJECTS INTERVENTION SOUTH AFRICANS’ EFFORTS DE VALERA OBDURATE Australian ana N.Z. Caine. LONDON, August 3. It is disclosed that Mr To Water, High Commissioner, and two members of the South African delegation to the Economic Conference, informally attempted to settle the economic dispute between Britain and the Free State. They met Mr de Valera and Mr Connolly but failed to reach agreement, Mr de Valera refusing Mr Tielman Ross, the South African jurist, as chairman of the proposed Land Annuities Tribunal. He insisted on a non-Empire chairman.
