WAIHI WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

ENJOYABLE MONTHLY MEETING HELD INTERESTING PROGRAMME The April meeting of the Waihi Women’s Intsitute was held in St. James’ Hall, the president, Mrs E. C. Westbury, chairing a large attendance. After the singing of the institute song, the president spoke feelingly of the loss the institute had sustained by the death of its first president, Mrs J. L. Gilmour, whom the members had come to look upon as a loved friend and helper. Members then stood in silence as a tribute to her memory, after which an appropriate solo was feelingly rend’ered by Mrs Kcven.

Mrs Westbury was appointed as delegate to the bi-annual meeting of the A.0.F.W.1., to he held in May. The dramatic circle announced that it would present three plays at the next meeting to he voted upon by the members as to which, if any, was suitable for presentation at the draniatic festival in Auckland in May. It was decided to accept the offer of Mr H. Bjerring to send someone to speak to members on the Douglas Credit System.

Two members, Mrs Hughes and Mrs Hancock, were chosen for nomination as institute representatives on the Waihi Hospital Board. After afternoon tea had been served, Mrs Keven gave three songs, .delighting the members, who much appreciated her thoughtful action in entertaining them. The demonstrations by Mesdames F. Franklin (satin flowers) and Honey (serviette folding) were followed with Interest by members. The trading table was well patronised, quite a variety of goods being disposed of.

Cards for the first of the Institute’s monthly socials, to be held next Wednesday (to-morrow) were distributed and the singing of the National Anthem concluded a very pleasant afternoon.
