' MATTERS AFFECTING WAIHI RIDING BRIDGE OVER THE WAIMATA At the monthly meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council (Mr Colin Mason presiding) several matters affecting the Waihi riding were dealt with. Wth reference to a request from ratepayers that a bridge be erected over the Waimata stream to link up Ford road with the Waihi-Tauranga ( road, the Minister of Public Works replied that he was arranging for a departmental report to be submitted lor his information, in order that he might give the request full consideration when the Public Works Estimates for the present financial year •were being prepared. The letter was received. The secretary of the Waikino branch of the Waihi School of Mines an asking for a renewal of the grant for school maintenance, pointed out that ten students were attending the branch, and that a large number of assays had been made during the past year for prospectors at Waihi. P The acting-engineer (Mr Shaw) reported that during the month the workmen engaged in the riding had given most of their time to the Walhi-Tauranga main highway. Slight repairs had been made to the clay portions of Matangia and Waimata roads. Timber for repairs o the Willows bridge was required, this bridge giving access to two settlers, Messrs Leopold and Morton. The report was adopted. Mr F. Hoyle asked for proper access to his and, some neighbours’ property, Waihi Beach road, the road having already been surveyed. Or G Hoye said he had suggested to the settlers to get together and do the road themselves, giving the council a price.
