LABOUR AND ANTI-LABOUR
PARTIES A TIE.
HOLMAN RETIRES FROM
POLITICS.
(Australian and N.Z. Cable.) (Received April 6, 10.35 a.m.) SYDNEY, this flay.
Though the 'new Assembly !;s described as bedig composed of 45 Labour and 45 anti-Labour, the former includes three Independent labbur members and the hatter twelve Progressives. Tine position is interesting and there is much spi?cnlatio|.'i regarding the result of today’s party meeting. It is understood
that Mr Holman was determined to recommend that Mr Storey be seint for to form a Ministry, while Holman’s Colleagues favour a mooting of Parliament, throwing upon the new members the rcIsponsibillty for hanging the Government. The question is which party will supply the Speaker, thereby placing itself in a Minority. 'Whether some ProI gressives are detachable from the Governmemt or whether any Independent Labour members will ,bo prepared to support the Government, is causing some engineering. 1 The indications are that the Labour party anticipate securitig support, and are preparing to talte olfico. It is leportod that Mr Holman does not seek election, but retires from politics, ait least for a time.
