COAL DISCOVERY
HUGE SEAM NEAR RUNANGA 1 SPLENDID QUALITY. i By Telegraph.—Press Association.) GREYMOUTH, this cmv. For some time past boring operations have been in progress on a nine-mile coal seam. The results have far exceeded anticipations. An analysis of the coal shows it to be of the very best quality, and superior to that obtained from the Liverpool mine, as the seam proves equal to the best in Nbw Zealand. The area covered by the new field is very extensive, and the outcrop and boring show at least thirteen million tons Of coal, sufficient supplies for twenty years. The mine is three miles from the Runanga station. The country is flat, and no engineering difficulties stand is the way of railway construction. Tro mine could he put in full working order in twelve months. At a largo meeting at Runanga on Friday night, the Mayor’ presiding, Mr H. Holland, M.P., addressed the meeting, and a resolution was carried that in view of flic fact that the Port Elizabeth mine was practically worked out and that there was a serious shortage of coal in the Dominion, with famine prices, the Government be urged to proceed with the development of the seam. The resolution was forwarded to the Acting-Picmier and Minister of Mines.
