BRITISH MINERS
A LEADER’S SOUND ADVICE. . LONDON, October 31. Mr Thomas, speaking at Islington, made an earnest plea for acceptance of ihe coal settlement. He said there were reports from two districts urging rejection. “I believe the future of democracy is involved in the matter. If the leaders are to be strengthened in negotiations they must have the full confidence of the men. When dealing with the other side, there is too much glib use of the phrase “selling the men,” which is usually the phrase of the humbug. If the leaders are useless let the men elect a new set. He had no hesitation in saying that he would advise the ’eaders that the terms ought to be, accepted this time.
