IRISH TROUBLES.
A MURDEROUS. ATTACK. THREE POLICEMEN SHOT . DEAD. LONDON, Oct. 30. Details of the Grange (Sligo) incident on the 25th instr show that a patrol of nine were cycling when 100 disguised, men lying in ambush 300 yards along the hillside in concealed; trenches with Joop- • holed walls opened ‘fire at 25 yards, using British servicei.rifles. They ehot two constables dead; Sergeant Werry ordered-- the survivors to take cover , v and return the fire. He then fell shot, through the heart. The police opened fire at the hidden - enemy, some of whom were wounded. An expanding bullet, hit Constable Keown in the throat. Constable Clarke was twice.wounded.' The fire was 1 directed by a little group in the rear and flank and as the men fell the enemy drew hearer. . X3ut of nine three are dead and three wounded. Ten assailants wore khaki uniforms and trench helmets. EXPERIENCES OF MRS BRYCE. LONDON, Oct. 31. -'Bryce’s sister-in-law, Mrs Ann Bryce, who has been staying at Glengarriff, interesting. herself in the Government policy regarding, reprisals, accepted/an invitation to lecture at Tonypandy, in Wales. On arriving, at Holyhead an officer,ordered here to a cabin, where there were several soldiers, and.told her, she would be searched; Her despatch case was opened, and an officer took notes intended for . a speech. J After being searched, she asked by whose orders she was arrested—-Sir Hamar Greenwood’s or General Macßeady’s. The officer replied that he could not .tell, and refused to produce a warrant'or evidence of power to arrest. She "was sent back to Kingston, and transferred to Bridewell, Dublin, in military custody. Four hours later a Castle Official told her she was released, as no charge would bo made against her.
