HIES SMOKING A CIGARETTE. Admiral Eoltchak, former head of the All-Russian Government, died smoking a cigarette, according to Captain Wallace I. Webb, provost marshal with the Lritisii forces and head of the International Military Police in Siberia, who has arrived at Victoria (8.C.) from Vladivostok. He was in Irkutsk at the rime. Captain Webb said that Koltchak and the. Premier, M. Peppeliayeff, were taken out and placed before a revolutionary firing squad. Koltchak asked if he was to be tried, and when informed that lie was not he asked permission to see Mme. Koltchak, but his request was refused. SQUAD REFUSE TO FERE. “Give me a cigarette,” he then asked, according to Captain Webb, who declared that Koltchak, with a steady hand, lighted it and faced the squad, awaiting the end. “Peppeliayeif, screaming, for mercy,” said Captain Webb, ‘ and attempting to run away, was shot down. Koltchak, smoking ms cigarette, calmly awaited the volley. The order was given to fire, but the firing squad refused to obey. Koltchak continued to puff away at his cigarette. “Incensed at the refusal of the firing party to obey, a commissary strode forward, pushed Koltchjk’s head back, and > Hew his brains out with a revolver.”
