PARLIAMENT

WORKING SHORT HOURS. (By Telegraph—Special to “Herald.”)f WELLINGTON, July 25. Parliament has worked short hours, but finds no difficulty in disposing of the few comparatively unimportant Government measures which have been introduced. The order paper is remarkably bare, though Ministerial assurances have steadily indicated that there will bo plenty of work shortly. Tho Municipal Corporations Act has been referred to a Special Committee, which meets on Wednesday, when it is understood something like 100 amendments will be submitted by the Minister in charge. The Budget is definitely promised for Tuesday, and this will doubtless loosen the Ministerial hold on Government policy secrets, and be followed by Bills indicating the real programme of the session. A debate on the Samoan labour policy is anticipated this week.
