A ROYAL ROMANCE

PRINCESS MARRIES CHAUFFEUR. ZURICH, July 24. An amazing royal romance has been disclosed in connection with Princess Alexandra, daughter of Prince Frederick of Schleswig-Hol-stein, whom Prince August, the Kaiser’s fourth son, recently divorced. The princess is now married to a chauffeur, declaring that it is better to be the loved wife of a chauffeur than the unloved wife of a royal prince. The chauffeur, who is named Fritz Meyer, wore the ex-Kairer’s livery before the war. He was driving the royal motor car when the romance began. He served as a lieutenant during the war. He was “the officer of common tastes and democratic name” whom Wilhelm cited in the divorce proceedings. The couple are now honeymooning, w r hile Wilhelm is employed as a bank clerk in Berlin. It is difficult to know how Meyer will support his wife as she has extravagant tastes. She was once imprisoned for a fortnight in the Gothic round tower at the castle of Eabelsberg by the ex-Kaiser as punishment for overspending. The princess is a statuesque blonde, has red hair, with a ruddy complexion. She is the personification of the typical German heroine. Her only child, of seven years, lives with the ex-Crown Princess Cecilia.
