Owing to the coal shortage, the City Council has decided to curtail til© tram services for Saturday. The small reserves are rapidly diminishing, and it was found that the cut was necessary immediately in order to prevent a complete stoppage later. It was decided to reduce the services to-morrow and cut out the services on the hills, thus creating a gap in every service. Th© cam will not come into Queen Street. The eastward section will stop at th© top of Symonds Street, a mile and a half from the Post Office, and the western at the top of Pitt Street. About onethird of the staff on the tramways will 4)0 temporarily suspended, one-third of the men standing down each week.
