LABOUR AND THE CABINUT
Australian and N.Z. Cable Association, LONDON, January 27. It is understood Mr Barnes’ resignation is in the Premier’s hands. Mr Barnes, apparently, is not content to longer hold Cabinet rank without portfolio, but Mr Lloyd George is endeavouring to get the resignation considered. Meanwhile, other Ministerial ofikes may l>e reviewed. Mr Barnes states that he does not contemplate political retirement. His retirement would finish any hopes MrLloyd George entertained of strengthening his position with Labour. Mr Barnes took Mr Henderson’s place in the War Cabinet despite strong Labour opposition, but to-day he is understood to be in sympathy with Lord Birkenhead’s recent indictment as to the invertebrate condition of the Coalition Government.
