GOVERNMENT GRAFTS. Tile Education Department notified, the making; of grants as under:—Kakariki, for new school, £780; Campbell Street, Palmerston North, grant increased to ,£8426, which would enable the lowest tender to be accepted; Lvtton Street, Feilding, for one room and additions to offices, ,£935.

SCHOOLS AND RESIDENCES. Application is to Ixs made for a grant for establishing a school at Mt. Biggs. It was decided, if possible, to re-open the Moumahald School, for which there would bo a mini mum attendance of 12.

The Senior Inspector is to rcjxirt, upon the advisability of erecting a residence at Euukura.

Tlie Education Department has agreed, to provide rent for site at Maxwell. For the present, a vacant cottage is to 1». utilised as a echoolhou.se on Bluff Hoad.

An adverse report was received from the architect concerning Great ford residence. and it was decided to make application for a grant for a new residence.

Permission was given to the Huntervillc Committee to launch its ground* improvement scheme, on which it proposes to spend £226 10s. A. cheque for £23 2s 6d was forwarded Jbj the Wanganui Cosmopolitan Club as its annual donation towards the prize funds of local schools. Cheque acknowledged with thanks.

An application w r as received from the Ohakuno Committee for the establishment of a district high school in that centre, pointing out that the school ■would have at least 30 pupils. Referred to Hie Inspector for report.
