COMFORTS FUNDS FRAUDS

MAJOR STORY CLEARED

LONDON, January 22. The charge against Major Story, of the Eighth Battalion, of fraudulently disposing of Comforts Fund stores has collapsed. Brigadier-General Jess (commanding the A.I.F. in the United Kingdom) decided that f court-martial was unnecessary .as there was no evidence to substantiate any of Lieutenant Harris’ statements, but on the contrary there was evidence to disprove them. The purchasers of the Comforts Fund stores declared that Major Story was not concerned in the transactions, and he was accordingly released from custody. Lieutenant Harris, who pleaded guilty to a similar charge, has been dismissed from the A.I.F.
