VICTORY STAMPS.

NEW ZEALAND'S ISSUE. Supplies of the now “Victory” stamps of denominations -id. Id, l|d, 3d, 6d, and,ls will be issued this week, and as eoon as they arrive they will be placed on sale in conjunction -with the present issue. The -j-d, 3d, 6d, and Is denominations are in sheets of 140, whereas the Id and Ljd denominations she in sheets of 160.

These stamps have been described by a London authority as remarkable and truly Imperial in their character. The designs are bold and effective. That of the id stamp depicts Peace seated on a lion holding out a victor’s crown of laurel. The tableau is in an arched frame inscribed “New Zealand's Victory Stamp,” On the Id red stamp is a similar allegory of Peace and a lion. The lid stamp, which is printed in an appropriate khaki colour, is of typical Maori design, and is intended as a tribute to the magnificent co-operation of the Maoris in the war. On the right is a panel bearing the portrait of a Maori warrior, and in the frame to the left are two Tekb Teko heads, as used by the Maoris ward off evil spirits from their homes.

The 3d stamp is the most imposing of all in point of design, a fine impressive lion at rest with a sun resplendent for a background. This is a bold and dignified design, and a highly appropriate emblem of the powerful part taken in the war by the Empire on which the sun never sets. .

The 6d stamp is of a bright purple colour, and its design is a winged figure of Victory emerging through an arch, leading an infant which may be symbolical of the Ledgue of Nations and the now-born understanding among peoples of the world. The highest denomination is the Is orange stamp. In the centre is an arched panel, bearing a nearly full face portrait of his Majesty the King, and in the frame at either side are a lion and a branch of fern, and in each of the upper spandrels is a Tefco-Teko.
