SUGAR SUPPLIES.

STATEMENT BY COMPANY’S

MANAGER,

(Per United Press Association.) TCELLINGTON, January 26. Mr Astlcy, representing the Colonial Company, is now in New Zealand to confer with the Government regarding the present position of sugar supplies and future sales of sugar to New Zealand. It is very difficult to obtain reliable information as to the shortage. J tis certain a scarcity prevails in some Rx ealitks, but not in others, and as the claims to be turning out about the same balk as usaal, it is suggested there is not really a serious shortage over the whole Dominion. Purchase is another matter. The Government has in recent years controlled the price and arranged with the company the price at which it would sell in quantity. The existing agreement shortly expires, and a new one must be made, which will be discussed between Mr Astley and Mr Massey, as head of the Board of Trade.
