EVERYBODY'S THEATRE.

George Walsh plays the hero in this fun-packed picture “Never Say Quit,” which was screened at Everybody’s evening. By no effort can he dodge the bad luck which follows him from the Friday on which he was born. Disasters always meet him with open arms. Even in marriage he cannot find refuge from the crooks and sharpers who steal his money and administer black eyes. This picture is supported by Gladys Brockwell in “Kultar.” Seats may be reserved at Upton’s. THE GRAND. Amateur theatricals have led to more than one peck of trouble, and in “A Pair of Silk Stockings,” the Select drama starring Constance Talmadge, which was screened at The Grand last evening to a large audience, there is justification for the observation. Mollie’s husband, or rather her ex-hus-band, gets his opportunity of spying on her, as he is made up for the part of a tramp. This comedy is a pure delight, one complication after another arises that keeps the audience in roars of laughter. The. supporting films are well selected, and intending patrons are advised to attend early to-night. CAPTAIN ALLAN’S RECITAL AT COLLEGE ASSEMBY HALL. A highly successful entertainment in aid of Dr Barnardo’s Homes was given last evening by Captain Allen, assisted by the Young Helpers’ League. There was a large attendance, and the programme submitted was largely appreciated. Captain Allen proved himself an excellent platform entertainer, and musical items (violin and piano solos and songs) and a dialogue were contributed by the young people. In concluding the programme. Captain. Allan gave a short address on the importance of the great work done by Dr Barnardo’s Homes, and mentioned that up to the present time they had taken change of 88,000 children. The singing of the Nar tional Anthem brought a very pleasant entertainment to a close. The entertainment will be given again to-night at the Technical School Hall, and providing the weather is moderate, a large crowd is anticipated. CONVENT ANNUAL ENTERTAINMENT. The Convent annual break-up entertainment will be given in the Opera House on Monday next, 15th December. Last year, owing to epidemic, the entertainment was omitted, hut this year a very attractive programme has been prepared. There will be a i number of vocal and instrumental pieces, drills, etc., and a very pretty operetta. The prices of admission are 3s, 2s, and Is. Patrons who have purchased a reserved seat (3s) ticket, will require to go to H. I. Jones and Son’s, who have the box plan, to get their tickets marked. The exhibition of pupils’ work will be held in the Convent, St. John’s Hill, on Saturday, 13th December, and Monday, 15th. Admission is free, and the Sisters of St. Joseph cordially invite the public to be present. GONVILLE YOUNG PEOPLE’S CLUB. The members of the Gonville Young People’s Club Iwfld another very successful social last evening, some thirty attending, Mr Grigg presiding. The lady members provided a fine supper, and a very pleasant evening was spent. On Thursday next, at the Opera House, Mr W. H. Hawkins, ex-M.P. for Pahiatua (late captain in the Expeditionary Force) will speak in the interest of Prohibition. Mr Hawkins comes with a big reputation. He is a most powerful and effective speaker, and is not afraid of hitting straight out at the Trade. Thursday next; Opera House, at 8 p.m.

Lovers of dancing are again reminded of the dance which will take place in the Wanganui Bast Town Hall on Wednesday next, December 10. The music will be provided by Mr N. Kirk, and, together with a good floor and firstclass suppe- and music, a most enjoyable evening is assured to all. A free motor will leave after the dance for the convenience of town patrons.
