AMUSEMENTS.

HIS MAJESTY'S

VAUDEVILLE PICTURES,

There wag a very large attendance at His Majesty's last evening, when a splendid programme combining vaudeville and pictures was presented. Keldme and Klimo, a pair of trick cyclists, one cf whom, in the rede of clown, provoked hearty laughter with, his droll antioa and comic acrobatic work. The mher displayed brilliant prowess as a trick bicycle rider, performing his feats with effective neatness. This act, which was applauded, tb the echo, is equal to anything of ita kind that has been witnessed on the local stage for some considerable time. In addition Miss Gail Kane, one of America’s leading stage stars, is seen in a stinking dramatic picture, "Her Great Matjh,” and without question she scores a decided hit. The character in “Her Great Match” is especially well suited to her chann and talent. A typical modern girl—in society but not of it—a real daughter of her father—a strong man who finds pleasure in hia work at the big timber mills, rather than at the fashionable city house which his second wife maintains in New York. Jo, as the girl is known, does not belong to the scheming false set in which her stepmother moves, but is dragged into the whirlpool by the deceit and craft of her stepmother and her friends. When love comes to the girl—she is ready to sacrifice all—and is almost called on to pay the price, but circumstances work in her favour and happiness comes. Some splendid supporting pictures are included, and altogether a very pleasant evening’s amusement oar. be spent at Hia Majesty’s. “THE MESSIAH.” TRINITY CHURCH TO-MORROW EVENING. For some weeks past a chorus of voices, representative of the majority of the local Protestant churches, have been giving special attention to practices for a’rendition of Handel’s famous oratorio, “The Messiah.” It is now announced that the rendition is to be to-morrow evening, at Trinity Church, which has been placed at the committee’s disposal for the occasion. The final practice was held last, evening and proved very successful, the difficult choruses being sung with excellent attention to detail. The assisting soloists are Mesdamcs E. M. Grant and A. J. Tucker, and Messrs L. Craig and Bicker ton, while Mr W. Shepley will contribute the trumpet solo. As opportunities of hearing the oratorio are few, much interest has been taken in the rendition to-morrow evening, and Trinity Church should be filled to its utmost capacity. As already stated, the proceeds are in aid of providing Xmas gifts for the inmates of the local Orphanage, and it is hoped that all who attend will demonstrate their sympathy in a practical manner. Ihe oratorio will be conducted by Mr T. L. Derbyshire, and Miss Ruby Turvey will preside at the piano. SOLDIERS’ SOCIAL EVENING. To-ratnrow night, at the Y.M.C.A. Booms, the ladies of Messrs T. E. Thomas and Co.’s staff are to entertain the returned soldiers at a social evening. The idea is to work along similar lines to these adopted in the Old Land when our boys were over, there, to reach the men and create the same feeling of comradeship so excellent in the Old Land. The ladies from various business houses in town arc undertaking to organise for and control these gatherings, and it is hoped that to-morrow evening the returned men will roll up and get together for a happy social hour. DRUIDS’ HALL ASSEMBLY, The committee of the Druids’ Hall Assembely arc holding another of their popular dances this (Tuesday) evening. A pleasant evening’s enjoyment is promised to all patrons. Music, floor, and supper of the best.
