Mr Wn, Spurdle has been advised that his son Ray, who left with the 40th Reinforcements, is returning to New Zealand by the Rimutaka, which 13 due on December 37th. A pleasant iilcic function took place at tho Warrengate School on Friday afternoon, when Miss Bird, the assistant mistress, who has been transferred to the Aramoho School, was presented with a mirror, brush and comb as a memento of her term of service at Fordell. The chairman of the School Committee, Mr A. S. Harper, made the presentation, and on behalf of the children assured Miss Bird of their regret that she was leaving, and of their good wishes for her happiness in the future. Miss Bird suitably acknowledged the .gift. Miss B. Howie .succeeds Miss Bird. A pleasant little function took place at the local office of Messrs Levin and Co. on Friday afternoon last, when the staff said farewell to one of their fellow employees, Mr AY. A. Murray who, after three years’ service, has severed his connection with the firm to enter into a business partnership in the country. A presentation was made by the manager, Mr Hoggard, who asked the departing member to accept a “scrap of paper” and their wishes for the best of luck in his new undertaking.
