AUCKLAND BUTCHERS' STRIKE.
STOCK SALES POSTPONED. AUCKLAND, November 19. In consequence of the slaughtermen's strike the \V estfield fait stock sales have been postponed indefinitely, though theie was a large yarding. Arrangements had to be made for grazin o, the stock. ANOTHER DEVELOPMENT, AUCKLAND, November 19. Another development has occurred in connection with the butchers’ strike as a, result of the cessation of work by slaughtermen. Instructions, were given for the release of frozen meat at Southdown to supply the future needs of the city. ‘This meat is the property of the Imperial Government, but there are standing instructions that it may be drawn upon if required for local needs. The freezing chamber hands, however, declined to shift the meat for the Auckland market and quitted the premises. This difficulty was overcome by clerks and department heads undertaking to shift the meat into trucks and no difficulty is expected in obtaining supplies from this source. RETAIL BUSINESS CONTINUING. AUCKLAND, November 20. The butchers on strike are still holding out sturdily, and the slaughtermen of the municipal abattoirs and Hellaby’s slaughterhouse definitely refused work to-day. Business proceeded without incident at the retail shops, the- present reduced staffs coping reasonably with all requirements. Supplies of frozen meat from the Imperial stocks were delivered to the city butchers this morning. A meeting of the master butchers will he held to-morrow night to consider the Union’s requests for a conference.
