WANGANUI SCHOOLS COMMITTEE

Last evening the usual meeting of the Wanganui Schools Committee was held. Mr Wm. Bruce presided, and there was a full membership with the exception of Messrs Hartton and Grace. Reports of head teachers disclosed the following:—Central Infants’, roll 334, present yesterday 291; Keith Street, 298 and 259; Queen’s Park 303 and 279; St. John’s Hill, 37 and 36; Victoria Avenue, 537 and 501. Miss O’Brien thanked the following for their kindness in providing motors to convoy children to the Children’s Day celebrations: —Messrs Jack, Morgan, Moosman, Hasman, B. Holmes, A. Holmes, Calver, and Wamock. The St. John’s Hill School authorities also thanked the following for similar kindness —-Messrs Death, Hector Christie and D. Henderson. The chairman reported that Dr. Elizabeth Gunn had arranged with the sanction of the Board and thp Education Department, to hold a health camp at Turakina in grounds lent by Mr Lethbridge. It is expected that 60 pupils will attend the camp, which is the first of its kind held in New Zeamatter of Queen’s Park School was discussed. Mr Bruce intimated that lie intended to make a statement at the next mooting of the lixiucation Board/ He contented himself by saying that an up-to-date school was going to be erected on the old site under more favourable conditions than obtained recently. . , . The chairman’s action in regard te refusing to grant the schools a halfholiday on Show day unless concessions were made by side-show proprietors, was endorsed.
