BANGITiKEI ELECTORATE MT( MELDEUM’S CANDIDATURE. A TRIUMPHAL MARCH. Mr Meldrnm, who is contesting the Eangitikei seat in the Liberal interests, is having a triumphal march through the electorate, and his well-expressed views on the political situation are winning supporters every day, besides solidifying the Liberal and Labour elements. On Thursday night Mr Meldrum spoke at Upper Tutaenui,' Marton, where he was accorded an attentive hearing, and throughout tie address his remarks were punctuated with appreciative applause. Mr W. S. Hawkins presided, and briefly introduced the candidate, who had a most enthusiastic reception. Mr Meldrum defined onr duties as a country and a nation, mentioning the need of a strong Navy, State-owned coal mines, shipping services, and bank. Government experimental farms to encourage the younger generation to take np fanning pursuits, and dealing with the labour question advocated equal pay for equal work. He condemned strikes and those persons who advocated the “go-slow” policy in all branches of industry. The teaching profession has a warm advocate in Mr Meldrum, who considers that the ■profession should be made more attractive to encourage the best to take it up. Agriculture study should feceive much more encouragement than at present. Mr Meldrum appealed to the ejectors to put aside all party and selfish feelings, and pull together for the uplifting of life in this country and the betterment of all classes concerned. Questions were asked and answered to the entire satisfaction of the audience, AT MARTON JUNCTION. A GREAT HEARING. Last night (Friday), Mr Meldrum addressed tie Marton Junction section of the electorate, and he had a really great meeting. Mr Fred Purnell presided oyer an attendance of close on 100, a big proportion of the audience being railway men. The candidate followed the lines of previous addresses, and the answers given to the questions asked evidently satisfied the audience, judging by the enthusiastic way in which the vote of thanks to Mr Meldrum was carried. The splendid tone of the meeting was a marked feature. THE PATEA SEAT. AIR. MORRISON AT WESTMERE. Air W. Morrison, Liberal candidate fop Patea, addressed the electors at Westmere last evening, when he had a splendid hearing, and received a vote of thanks for his address. Owing to pressure on our space, the full report of Air Alorrison’s speech is held over till Monday. AIR POWDRULL AT HAWERA. (Per United Press Association.) , HAWERA, November 15. Mr Powdrell, who is standing in the Reform interests, in his first address here, said he came cut because the majority of the Reformers of Hawera and other parts of South Taranaki preferred him. to the sitting member. Air Powdrell said he supported Air Massey. In bis speech he criticised several points in the Liberal policy. He was against nationalisation of mines and against a State Bank. He favoured vigorous immigration, free dental treatment of children, hydro-electric development, and Prohibition by a bare majority. He denounced the go-slow policy, and thoight a system of profit-sharing the cure. He considered much greater use could be made of machinery than at present.
