AMUSEMENTS & MEETINGS.

HIS MAJESTY’S, “THE WOMAN ON THE INDEX.” There was a capital attendance at His Majesty’s Theatre last night, when the Goldwyu feature, “The Woman on the Index,” fully realised all expectations. The story is one of the most original seen here, and Pauline Frederick gives a presentation of a difficult role iu a convincing manner. There are some excellent supporting features, including Die latest Topical Budget, a beautiful scenic, and a rollicking comedy, “Captain Jack's Plumber,” starring Harry Daniels, the quaint comedian. Popular music by Fuller’s Orchestra enhanced the pleasure derived from the screenings. The programme will be repeated this eve.ning. Seats may be reserved at Upton’s Music Warehouse. THE GRAND. ALICE BRADY TO-NIGHT. Last evening the attraction at the Grand introduced Alice Brady in “The World To Live In.” An interesting type of modern 'girl is the heroine. The leading role is admirably presented by Alice Brady. The type is common to great cities to-day, that of a girl, heartless, loving the good things of life-which, have been denied her, and therefore chosing her friends from among those who are well enough off to provide her with the frothy pleasures she craves. The supporting films are the Gaumont Graphic, “The Fighting Trail” No 7, and an interesting picture of the Canterbury v. Maori Rugby football match. Scabs may be reserved at Upton’s. The usual Saturday matinee will be given to-morrow afternoon at 2.30. THE GRAND. NEXT MONDAY. GREAT PICTURE ATTRACTION. “INFATUATION.” “Infatuation” is a French production in every way—atmosphere, star, author, settings, are all gorgeously, magnificently, truly French. Gaby Deslys makes her screen debut in it, and tho picture is worthy of the stir. "What is most astonishing about tho story is tho simplicity of the plot; it is the homely, life story of a poor Parisian, flower girl who achieves fame, fortune, and love, and becomes the victim of a plot on tho part of a rejected lover to discredit her in her husband’s eye. Outstanding features of the production are tho nifioent and bizarre costumes which. Gaby effects, .and which have become generally associated with her. The sittings are gorgeous in their splendour—scenes of a colossal music comedy were specially taken to introduce the atmosphere of stage life that Die story calls for, and the leading man is Harry Piker, Gally’s dancing partner, who has shared her rise to fame. The box plans for this picture opened at Upton’s Music Warehouse this morning.
