N.Z. TEAM IN SOUTH AFRICA. FIRST MATCH WON. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. Received 15 July 30, 10.15 a.m. CAPETOWN, July 24. The New Zealand .Military Rugby team' in its first, match beat a team representing the country clubs by .8 points to 6. The scores were made np by one goal and one try to one penalty goal and one try.

TRAMWAYMEN AT RUGBY. WELLINGTON DEFEAT WANGANUI. The Wellington Tramways representative team which has been on tour played the Wanganui Tramway fifteen yesterday on the Rec., and scored an easy win by 20 points to 3. The match was to have been played on Saturday, but the Wellington men were detained in Auckland and unable to get through. It was understood that the game had been abandoned, but hurried arrangements were made for the Wellingtonians to break their return journey here and play. The visitor's left Onehunga on Monday and came on from New Plymoutii in motor oars, arriving here at midday. They were naturally feeling the effects" of the travelling, and were not able to show of their best, otherwise they would have run up a bigger score. The teams were: . Wellington Tramways (green): .Pullback, Yates; three-quarters, Roderick, Green and Andrews; five-eights, Bowie; and Nicholls; half, Loveridge; wingforward, Stone; forwards, Anderson, Sullivan, Trinder, Dumbletoa, Minifies Moriarty and Peacock. Wanganui; Pull-back, Tate; threequarters, R. McGregor, Houston and Barnes; five-eights, Harrison and Richards, half, Feaeey; forwards, Swayue, Northover, Anderson, Bayley, Ryland, Mcßride, Dustin and Quirke. ' The weather was ideal for football, but the play was not of a high standard. After'some even play Wanganui registered first blood, Bustin kicking a goal from a penalty. The visitors attacked on resuming, and Loveridge made a big effort to even up the score, as he put in a great kick from a penalty, the ball hitting the bar and falling back into the field of play. Bowie made a,fine run to'line, but a knock on lost another chance for the visitors, and Barnes headed a rush to the other end of the field, but Roderick With a good run and kick relieved the pressure. The greets attacked, and from a scrum on tlie line Loveridge secured and dashed over. Nicholls landed a goal, putting the visitors ahead by 5 points to 3. There was no alteration up till halftime. In the second half the visitors had all the best of the game, Loveridge secured near the Wanganui 25, and scored between the posts after a fine cutting in run. He was tackled as he was grounding the ball, and waA rather badly hurt Nicholls converted. The Wanganui men played up well for some time, but the greens held them out, and in turn assumed' the • aggressive, Bowie scoring after a ohver run. Again Nicholls added the extra points. A Wanganui rush to the visitors’ line followed the resumption of play, McGregor being prominent, but *the visitors beat them back, and invaded Wanganui territory again, Saul (who went on as an emergency); scoring a try after some passing.
