AUSTRALIAN SHEEPBREEDERS’ COMPLAINT. Australian and N.Z. Cable SYDNEY, July 6. The Sheopbreeders’ Association resolved to urge the Federal Government to proclaim Australian sheep free from pleuropneumonia, foot and mouth disease, and scab, in order to secure the removal of the embargo imposed by the American, Canadian and Agenline Governments. It is contended that New Zealand sheep are permitted to enter these countries, although New Zealand sheep are no healthier than Australian. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. MELBOURNE, July 4. . Levin and Co. report as follows on the sales held on Friday last: Hides.—We submitted a fair sized catalogue to the usual attendance of buyers. The bulk of our catalogue was allocated to tanners at Goverumort schedule prices. All lots not selected by tanners were submitted to auction. Competition was exceedingly keen, with the result that all lots offered by us were sold. Ox and super cow sold at Id and medium and light-weight cows at Id to ltd per lb. above the Government schedule prices, whilst kips and inferior sorts sold readily at an advance of Id upon last sale’s rates. DALGETY AND 00. REPORT. We held our usual fortnightly sale of hides and ta Horn, when we submitted a good catalogue to the usual attendance of buyers. Thn=o lines which were not selected mot with keen competition from the exporters '-resent. Prices for medium and light-weight cows showed a light, advance on last sale's rates, whilst all other lines were about on par. The tallow market is again very firm, and prices showed, another advance on late rates. The N.Z. Farmers' Co-op. Distributing ’ompany, Ltd., report having held a clearing sale on account of Mr James Rowan, of Wcstmerc. who had disposed of hi- property. There was a good attendance of buyers, and keen compel ion was the order of the day. Cows icming to profit realised up to £2O; store cows, up to £9; yearlings, up to £3 4-: bay gelding. £l4 10s; hay press, £lO. Implements and sundries realised good price.'. HIDE' AND TALLOW. Tt is expected in the trade that the embargo on ihc export of hides is to bo lifted, and that the abolition of the. schedule prims is pending. A catalogue of from 1500 to 2 'OO hide?, including caif skins, is likely to be offered this week. The market for tallow is ‘expected to rule at fully up to last sale's price level. From private cabled advices received from London, it would seem likely that the British Government will again control the price of tallow.
