No further word ha-s been received of the -whereabouts of the Wanganui Harbour Board’s dredger, the Kaione, but she is expected to reach Fremantle practically at any time now. The Harbour Board has been busy preparing to resume active wort, and it is anticipated by ♦the chairman that in three months’ time the work will be in active operation in all departments. Work on the Veterans’ Steps in Maria Place will be commenced next Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock. It is intended to have a little ceremony in connection with the commencement. All members of the Veterans’ Association, and also of the South African Veterans’ Association, as well as all returned soldiers, are invited by the Mayor to be present at 2 p.m. on Monday next on the site of the work. . Mr E. Semple, M.P., and Mr Parry (executive member of the N.Z. Labour Party) will address two meetings in- the Opera House this week-end. On Saturday Mr Semple’s subject will be “Exposure of National Government,” and his ,-unday subject will be “Labour’s Constructive Policy.” All interested are invited. The meeting on Saturday commenoee*at 8 p.m., and on Sunday at 8,15 p.m.
