AMUSEMENTS & MEETINGS.

Ms Majesty’s. PICTURES AND VAUDEVILLE.' Amothen popular entertainment of first-class pictures and vaudeville was given at His Majesty’s last night, the variety being supplied by Billy Sumner and Barron. The former is a ragtime singer and dancer. He is very nimble on his feet, and his turn was greeted with hearty applause. In Barron the management have secured a ventriloquist who knows his job thoroughly, and last night he gave an excellent, well-finished exposition of his art. In this his friend “Nobbier” actively assisted, and the .pair gave the audience a very merry time. The entertainment was rounded off by an excellent photoplay, full of life and action, featuring Viola Dana, entitled “Riders of the Night.” To-night will be the last opportunity of seeing this excellent double bill. HIS MA JESTY’S. To-morrow evening at His Majesty’s Theatre an exceptionally lengthy and beautiful programme will be screened, pride of place being given to a superb picturisation of Winston Churchill's popular novel, “The Crisis,” which deals with one of the greatest events in American history, and contains one of the sweetest love stories. There are magnificent backgrounds, many of them of rare beauty, the “Lead, Kindly Light” scene in particular being of an appealing nature and a masterpiece of pathos. TO-MORROW'S SCOTCH CONCERT. A further reminder is given of the Scotch concert to be given in St. Paul’s Hall to-morrow evening. In addition to the choir items, the concerted numbers of which will include such old favourites as “The Cameron Men," “Mary,” “Keel Row,” “Hundred Pipers,” and “Robin Adair,” the choir will be assisted in the programme by Mr and Mrs Sperring, Messrs Jensen and Melville, and a quartette party from the Male Choir. The local Pipe Band is assisting both before and during the conceit. There will also be an exhibition of Highland dancing by a promising young local dancer, and little Miss Gordon will be heard in recitations. The concert promises to be very successful, WANGANUI MEN'S SOCIETY. Before the war there was a flourishing Men's Brotherhood in Wanganui, with its meetings for social service on Sunday afternoons. Under the presidency of the Rev. H. L. Blamires (returned chaplain), and with Mr S. J. Goodey, as secretary, a society has just been formed which will cover a still wider field. The Wanganui Men’s Society aims at bringing together men for social and spiritual fellowship and .service, and to study the larger problems of good citizenship, social questions, and Christian life. All sections of the community will be enrolled in its membership, and returned soldiers will have a special welcome.
