Mr Tower writes that the alleged Hungarian alliance with the Bolsheviks has resulted in an immediate reactionary agitation in Berlin. Numerotis meetings of protest against the peace terms and the cession of territory have been held. These have been engineered bv former well-known militarists, who reappeared like mushrooms. The National Union of German officers paraded tbe streets with the Imperial colours flying and bands playing tbe Kaiser’s hymns. Hie parade halted at Bismarck’s statue and swore a ceremonial oath of allegiance to the frontiers. He found' that simultaneously Lndcndorff appeared and the crowds cheered and then swarmed round the statue, joined by a band playing the national hymn, and concluding with the dramatic chant “Lord, make us free.” Ministerialist Schaffer addressed the gathering, swearing dramatically that the Government would not surrender an inch of territory east or west.
