INTERESTING TO EMPLOYERS.
EMPLOYMENT OF APPRENTICES. At the Magistrate's Court yesterday, two industrial cases of interest to employers were heard. Messrs D. Murray and Co. were proceeded against on the complaint that having apprenticed one H. Owles to the fitting and turning branches of the engineering trade did. during February, employ the apprentice at work that did not form part of toe fitting and turning trade, thereby failing to teach the- apprentice the fitting and turning trade t as required by the Wellington DistrictEngineers’ award. A similar information was h“*r.l against Allen Bros., in respect- to n X apprentice named D. Anthony. In both these cases the boys were employed to assist the blacksmith. appeared in person, and pti forward the excuse that they had to employ the boys owing to shortage of labour to assist the blacksmith. Mr Wyvern Wilson. S.M., said it was quite clear the intentions of the award were to ensure the lads being properly taught the branches of the trade to which they were apprenticed, but as the breaches were not intentional, he thought a penalty of .£1 in each case would be sufficient.
