ST. JOHN’S CLUB. The eighth annual meeting of the above club took place at the Regent Rooms on Monday evening, when Mr G. McCaul (president) presided over an. attendance of about 3U members, and congratulated the club upon another successful season. The election of officers resulted:—Patron, Mr J. G. Swan; president, Mr G. W. McCaul; vice-presidents: Messrs C. E .Mackay, F. Cunningham, M. Lampe, W. Billows, M. Spurdle, W. Yeitch, E. Marrincr; hon. see., Mr A. A. Lane; treasurer, Mr F. Wagstaff; ladies committee ; Mesdames Bland, Box, Lane, Billows, Sheldon, Davies, Tuppor, G. Swan, and Allison; gentlemen’s committee: Messrs P. Russ, Newton, E. White, H. Tukere, E. Sutherland, H. Walker and E. Box; captain, W. G. Billows; vice-captain, M. L. Lampe; auditor, E. Marriner. The following new members were elected;— Messrs Hanton, R. Moffatt, M. Moffatt; Mesdames Walker, Williams, Hubbard; Messrs R. Cuthbertson, H. Williams, H. Walker, Gray, Hubbard, Allen, P. Dickson, Adams, and Dr Baird. Votes of sympathy were moved to the relatives of the late“Mr Hair, Mr Green, and Rev. Ambury, It was decided to write the Borough Council pointing out the bad condition of the road to the courts, also the advisability of linking up the two roads adjoining the courts. Votes of thanks were passed to all officers of the past season, Messrs A. Lane and W 7 . Fcnney being specially mentioned. The annual report -stated that the seven courts had been kept in good order throughout the season. During the year the old pavilion was pulled down and a much larger one erected, with all conveniences. The finances of the club are in a sound condition. A loan of £2OO had been raised for the new pavilion, and the bank overdraft had been paid off. Messrs Billows, Lampe, and Marriner were thanked for trophies. Two inter-club matches were plaved with Patoa. The membership of the club is 80. and over 50 members were at the front. A number of new members were joining, and the prospects of the coming season were good. Tennis enthusiasts are invited to the above club’s opening on Saturday next, when a progressive, tourney and general play will take place. The ladies’ prize is a verv pretty handbag kindly presented by the patron, Mr G. Swan, whilst the gents’ prize is n fine leather bag kindly presented hv Mr F. Cunningham. Players are requested to attend early for the first ronnd at I. the second round will commence about 3.30, and general play 4.30.
