THE WEATHER.

The Weather Bureau reported at noon to-day as under:—The indications are for northerly winds, strong to gale, and backing by west to south. Expect cold and damp weather. Rain probable. Barometer rising shortly. Sea increasing to heavy on the coast. Tides good.

A first-offending inebriate was convioted and discharged at the Police Court this morning. A wounded soldier, who is an inmate of the Victoria Hospital, Wellington, wrote to the Sick and Wounded Soldiers' Fund Society suggesting that nets efaould be sent to El Arish to keep off flies and mosquitoes, instead of sending tobacco and cigarettes; also, tha't biscuits instead of cakes should be sent, as they kept much better.
