TRAMWAY EMPLOYEES' PICNIC.
The annual picnic held by the Wanganui tramway employees at Hipango Park was largely attended, and was gei erally voted one of the most enjoyable functions of its kind ever held. The committee provided a piano on Ihe steamer, and music and songs enlivened the trip up and down the river. A plentiful supply of soft drinks, fruit*, and lollies, also tea, sugar, and milk were also provided, so that the picnickers were welMfcmked after, the little ones a fine time. An interesting pßp-amme of sports was run off on the park, a number of handsome trophies having been kindly presented by various townspeople, to whom the committee desire to return their thanks. Mr W. A. Veitch, M.P., presented the prizes to the various winners, a* under:— Open Handicap.—H. Smith 1, Margetfe 2, Queenan 3. Tramway Handicap.—E. Ogier 1, J. Anderson 2, ('. Duggan 3. Married Ladies' Race. —Mrs Swain and Mrs Maain dead, heat, Mrs Taylor 3. In t\\f rnn-off Mrs Mann -won. Boys' Race, under 14 years.—L. Roach 1, Y." Soloman 2, R. Foster 3. Girls' Race, under 14.- R. Gohns 1, P. Christian 2, E.. Wilkie 3. Motormen's Handicap.—W. Hickman f„nd J. Lynn dead heat, G. Swain 3. In the run-off W. Hickman won. Conductora' Handicap.—J. Anderson 1, M. Coughlin 2, I. Bailley 3.
