FRENCH OFFENSIVE.
ARTILLERY AND BOMBING WORK. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON, April 7. A French communique states that between the Somme ani the Oise and north of Soissons there have been artillery engagements at different points, but no infantry attacks. North-west of Rheims we continued our advance by bombing west of Sapigneul. LONDON, April 7. There has been violent artillery fire in the Aollon-Grugies region. We made further progress north of Laudricourt. There is great mutual artillery fire north-west of v Perry-au-Bac, and much aerial activity. RHEIMS AGAIN BOMBARDED. (Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assn. Reuter.) LONDON, April 8. French official. —There is much lively artillery fire. The Germans yesterday and last evening threw many thousands of shells into Rheims, 15 civilians being killed and many wounded. THE GERMAN REPORT. (Australian and NZ. Cable Services.) LONDON, April 7. A wireless German official message states: —We repulsed a French attempt to recapture our last trenches near Sapigneul and attacks on Malancourt Wood. In strong aerial reconnaissances the enemy suffered severely, losing yesterday 44 machines. Five of ours are missing.
