STATE BUTCHERS’ SHOPS.

EBCOED BUSINESS AT AUCKLAND. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, January 25. The Hon. Mac Donald, President of the Board of Trade, to-night received the lollowing telegram from the Secretary of the Board' of Trade at Auckland, in connection with the opening of two State butchers’ shops there today “The first day’s business at the Government shops constitutes a record, despite adverse conditions and an exceedingly hot day. The sale yards on Wednesday were evidently affected through the scheme. Beef prices were normal, but mutton prices were 2s to 3s less than last .week’s rates. Everything is proceeding satisfactorily, but strong evidence is apparent generally that the scheme should be extended.” Says the New Zealand Herald:—The aim of the Board of Trade in selecting butchers’ shops in Auckland to be conducted under State control has been to choose as far as possible businesses in populous centres of the city. Both, businesses acquired are those formerly belonging to Mr Douglas Eeid. One shop in Wellesley Street West, and the other is in Kyber Pass. Mr Eeid has been retained in the capacity of manager of the two snops, and part of his duty will be to buy stocks of meat. Mr Eeid’s staff has been retained.
