A MAGNIFICENT FILM “WITHIN OUR GATES'' Enthusiasm was manifest at the Eifig’s Theatre last evening, when the J. (JWilliamson Patriotic War production, “Within our Gates,” or "Deeds that Won Gallipoli,” was received with unqualified approbation. The film-undoubt-edly a masterpiece cf its kind, and deals with the German Secret Service agencies prevalent throughout the Colonies. The story opens with an introduction to the Henschels, who receive messages from Berlin by a secret wireless apparatus in a disused attic, telling of the forthcoming hostilities. To aid their officials, they plot to get one Mat Linder, a War Office official, in their power, and later succeed in persuading him to trace plans and copy despatches, which, should they be known to the enemy, would be disastrous to the Contingents preparing to leave for the Mediterranean. Later Mat realizing his baseness, enlists and leaves with the expeditionary forces for the Dardanelles, where ho is present at the landing on Gallipoli Peninsula. During one of the furious skirmishes with the enemy be vindicates himself amidst a heavy rain of bullets and shrapnel, receiving a fatal wound. The scenes of the landing on Gallipoli and the skirmishes with the Turks are most realistically portrayed. The films associated include “Topical Budget,” “The Smuggler's Daughter,” (Lubin); “Tne Ward of the Mission,” (A.8.1; while the comic clement is well sustained with “Haunted by Hawk-eye,” and “Fathers Hot Toddy,” “A Trip Through the Wye Valiev,” is also on the bill. “THE TREY OF HEARTS.” ffleo Madison, who is being featured in the ’‘Trey O’ Hearts” series, underwent the crowning sensational incident of her life recently during the filming of “White Water,” the second instalment of the senes. For the purpose of injecting realism into the picture, and that the specified business of the story might be carrie.l out to the. letter, she allowed herself to be carried out a half mile through the death-dealing rapids of the dan Gabriel River.
