AT TIMARU. (Per United Press Association.! TIMARU, August 31. At the Supreme Court, in' the Fairlie sheep stealing case, the jury found the accused Dunnett not guilty. The prosecution was based chiefly oh ' the finding of sheep on accused’s property bearing a “Keyhole” earmark which Chapman’s sheep bore. It was proved that Aeyhole was a Hawke’s Bay brand, brought down on a large shipment that was scattered over Canterbury by consignee’s sales, and the accused Dunnett had bought some ewes as well as Chapman. The sheep bearing Chapmans brand was found with Dunnett’e earmark recently made, but it was on Chapman’s property, and Dunnett denied making this mark. Dunnett was recently fined for selling sheepskins with ears cut off. He had killed at Chapman’s shed find denied cutting off the ears. Frank Allen, who lived in a hut in the jCVistrict, was ’found guiilty of breaking into a store at Hinds and stealing various goods. Be was sentenced to six months. This concluded the criminal business. AT INVERCARGILL. INVERCARGILL, Aug. 31. The Supreme Court opened to-day. Hugh Mick Cameron, aged 32, on a charge of forgery and uttering; Frederick W. Ambrose, aged 36, on a. charge of breaking and entering and theft; Wm. John Sycamore, 18 years, for breaking and entering, and Arthur H. F. Fenn, 19 years, for forgery of two cheques for £35 and £3O were ordered to be detained for reformative treatment for a. term not exceeding three years. Sue Fun, a Chinaman, charged with indecently assaulting a girl under 16 years at Tapanul, was found guilty and remanded for sentence. Norman F. Boyce, 17 years, charged with unlawfully carnally knowing a girl over 12 and under 16 years was acquitted. AT NAPIER. NAPIER, August 31. The criminal sessions of the Supreme Court were opened to-day, the Chief Justice, Sir Robert Stout, presiding. Richard Thomas Hern, a man of weak intellect, pleaded guilty to having carnal knowledge of a girt under 16 and was remanded for sentence. Richard Fairchild did not appear -to answer the charge of obtaining money under false pretences, l and on the application of the bondsmen the case was adjourned. . Wm. Jas. Hart was found guilty .of theft from a dwelling and remanded for sentence.
