CASTLECLIFF TOWN BOARD.

The ordinary monthly mooting of the .Castleclilt Town Hoard was held last night, presided over by the chairman (Cmr. Cresswell). There were also present: Omrs. MoDougall, Glenn, Simpson, and Firth. LEAVE OF ABSENCE.—Leave of ahsonco was granted to Mr Scott, and it was decided to send him a letter of condolence on his sad bereavement. REMOVAL OE COTTAGE.—Mr .1, T. Inkster applied for permission to remove a four-roomed cottage from Taylorville to Castlccliff. The foreman reported having granted the necessary permission, and his action was confirmed.

'CONFERENCE.—The Ractihi Town Board forwarded a copy of a remit for the Municipal Conference in file direction of allowing members of town boards to participate in contractu for supplies or work to be done for a board up to tlic value of 410 for any one ycar s The chairman thought that the remit should be supported. It was decided to support the remit.

MII’O STREET.—A deputation of five residents in Miro Street waited upon the Board and asked the Board to form about six or seven chains of footpath. The foreman reported that the cost would lie about 4.')5. The chairman replied that, the Board was face to face with many demands for improvements, and it was anxious to do what it could—the necessary work first—and distributing the worn fairly over the district. lie assured the deputation that its request would receive careful consideration by the Board. ' It was decided to form the footpath as soon a.« possible, and the Works Committee was asked to inspect this street with a view of extension to the sea front.

ENGINEER’S REPORT.—During' the month the staff had been engaged in forming the footpath in Cross Street, also six chains of Poison Street and four chains on Rata. Road. The extension of Pobon Street had been commenced and would occupy most of the month. The widening of Cornfoot Street, opposite Mrs Carle’s section, was progressing favourably. DRAITED ACCOUNTS. _ Accounts amounting to 4128 I ts 5d were passed for payment. ESTIMATES.—The estimates for. the coming year, a summary of which is found in another column, were adopted. SPECIAL RATE.—It wasi decided to collect a, special rate of 5-16 d in the 4, on account of the 4:1000 loan. The total rates would be 1 5-IGd in the 4.
