VALEDICTORY.

PRESENTATION TO MR. J. B. REID. The members of tho Wanganui Shakospeare Society met last evening in tlio Education Board offices to hoimiu their secretary, Mr J. 11. Reid, on Tie occasion of his approaching departure f-jr Adelaide. Air J. V. Williamson, the president, occupied the chair, and a. large muster of members attended. Apologies for absence were received from Mr Kerr, S.M., Mr Louis Cohen, Dr Ilatlierly and others. The chairman referred to the fact that Mr Reid had acted as secretary since the formation of the Society, and had discharged the onerous dunes of the po.-i----tion with marked ability, zeal and discretion, and in addition had been one of the foremoit readers at both ordinary and public functions. On behalf of the Society he wished Mr Reid a happy and prosperous future, and asked him to accept a gold watch suitably inscribed as a tangible memento of his long and pleasant connection with the Society. Mr Reid,, in reply, thanked the members feelingly for their kindness and good wishes, and assured them that not the least happy of his Wanganui memories would bo those associated with the Shakespeare Society.
